About Global Trends

Global Trends provides concise information about major trends in peace, the world order, development, the global economy and environmental change. Drawing on the latest findings in international research and a wealth of statistical data, the work contains overviews, analyses and forecasts on present and future developments and interdependences.

Global Trends thereby combines factual information with well-structured analysis and recommendations for policy action. The publication’s particular strengths are its clear and accessible format and its interdisciplinary approach.

Global Trends has been published in German every two to three years since 1990. Abridged English editions containing a summary introduction and selected key contributions were published in 2010, 2006 and 2002. A Full English version was published in 1994.

Publishers

Global Trends is published by the Development and Peace Foundation (SEF), founded in 1986 on the initiative of Willy Brandt and based in Bonn, and the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), established at the University of Duisburg-Essen in 1990 on the basis of a cooperation agreement with the SEF.

A cross-party and non-profit-making organization, the SEF (www.sef-bonn.org) aims to shape policy responses to globalisation through an interdisciplinary and international approach. SEF events and publications represent a contribution to the promotion of worldwide peace and sustainable development. As essential prerequisites for peace and development the Foundation identifies social justice, human dignity, the respectful coexistence with nature and its resources as well as multilateralism.

The INEF (www.inef.uni-due.de) is the only German research institute working on questions at the intersection of peace and development. It combines basic with applied research and public policy consulting. INEF research can be classified into the following three main areas: analysing processes of globalisation and related questions of governance, the examination of violent conflicts and instruments of peaceful conflict management and issues of international development and human rights policies.
